The Weight of Snow — What Comes Next

One of the most enjoyable and rewarding voiceover jobs I ever recorded was the audio drama for Dr Who: New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield with the late David Warner and the wonderful Lisa Bowerman.

Sadly, it turned out to be David’s last recording for the much-loved series, which has something of a cult following.

I actually mention it in my online voiceover course, Breaking In – How to Launch Your VO Career, because it’s surprisingly rare for voiceover artists to be in a studio together, feeding off the energy of the other actors and, of course, the crew. It feels almost more like doing a play, and is a very different experience from being locked up in a booth all on your own — which is usually the case with us lot… 😉

So, before I’ve even finished The Weight of Snow — I’m currently writing the final scene — it occurred to me that I’d love to turn it into an audiobook as soon as it’s finished.

We live in such a visual world these days, but there is something wonderful about simply listening to voices, music and sounds, and allowing your own imagination to create the world of the story rather than having the whole scenario visually “fed” to you, so to speak.

I think it’s amazing how vivid and entertaining a great audiobook can be when it’s really well done.

And so, while I’m completing my Tibetan short story, part of my brain is already pondering which six voices — there are six scenes — could help me bring it to life.

I have some wonderful names in mind.

I’m not sure they will agree… but we’ll have to see.

Stay tuned. 😉
